Are we changing? And if so, for how long?

Sunday again! Really? Really!

Lil anecdote for you: At the beginning of the week (let's say… Monday), my friend made an observation about me that I found both genuinely funny and slightly annoying. We were talking about how things were going with, you know, all of this, and when I gave a complaint-free report, she laughed and replied, "I think I'm starting to resent how well you're doing." I could see why she said what she did, which is why I laughed too, but at the same time, it didn't quite feel like a fair assessment. "Well" isn't how I'd describe how I'm doing. Maybe… ok? Maybe.

Then, the next day, I was editing Leandra's story about the last five photos in her camera roll and she perfectly expressed the feeling I'd been trying to identify. Then I got it: I'm not doing well, I'm adapting. Some people are quicker to adapt than others, and some of us who are quick to adapt are also quick to forget that things were ever any other way. It's helpful, in times like these, but it's also kind of unsettling, in its memory-erasing, grief-skipping style. (So, please—hold your resentment!)

While I've been luxuriating in my flawless adaptation (jk) to the weirdest experience of, I think it's fair to say, most of our lives, I've found myself sifting through the pros and cons of the past few weeks, wondering which new habits I'll incorporate into my non-isolated existence and which ones I'll ditch as soon as I have the chance. And this leads me to the reason for this newsletter, which is that I think we published a handful of stories recently that are really helpful in this exercise—the one where we try to decide what has been good about this and what has been bad, and we accept the fact that it's been both. (In unequal measure, to be clear.) Maybe you could use a little extra fodder on this topic too? Hope so—because here are those stories, starting with Leandra's piece I mentioned earlier, and ending with a very funny one about roommate etiquette that should give you well-deserved laugh.
